About Us

St Dominic Catholic Hospital is a 64 bed hospital located in Ogungbade off New Ife road Ibadan. St Dominic Catholic Hospital is the vision of Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena(Italy). The Congregation opened a mission house Ogungbade village, the first group of sisters arrived on 7th of July 2002. Their presence evokes happiness and expectations from the local people. They did not hesitate to make their needs known to the sisters through their local chief (Baale). The request for a health facility was considered because of the concrete reality of lack of health care facility within the locality at that time and poor hygienic condition people were living in. People began to knock at the door of the sisters demanding first aid treatment even when the sisters were not prepared to address healthcare needs. Suddenly maternity cases followed without adequate provision for safe delivery. The sisters were taken unawares by the people because they believe that a Catholic Convent is equivalent to a hospital.

This need motivated the sisters to use the visitors’ building to run clinic and maternity services which began on 3rd of May 2003. This clinic serves Ogungbade and the neighbouring villages. The people became happy and the news about the clinic spread with increased number of patients. With the increase demand for medical services, it became clearer that a hospital is needed to serve the people better.

After much discussions based on daily experiences, the proposal to build a hospital was accepted and approved by the general council of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena in Rome.
